I realised when I put it back in yesterday that it was originally so loose 
that the second I touched it the end must have come out. It was only when I 
reinstalled it that I realised that it is not _supposed_ to revolve when 
it's pushed the whole way in.

Definitely don't touch it unless you have a really good reason; e.g. it 
won't shift out of first or something.
