According to Bently this is 5 deg > BTDC and where it should be timed. Muir concurs, but calls it 7.5 deg BTDC. Which timing mark style do you have? I have to ask, just because the engine may have been changed. Third mark from the left is different depending on which pulley you have. It's 10 deg on engines up thru '71 and 5 deg thereafter. I just checked and you're right; I was mistaken about the correct timing. The '73 engines get timed to 5 BTDC, which is the third mark from the left on the '73 pulley. I love the Muir book, but when the 2 disagree, the Bentley is almost always right. > >I've certainly seen a few problems with '72-3 TVSs, but they all show up at > cruising speed. Only the 68-9 TVS makes an audible click. The later ones are all silent. For the 72-3 TVS with 5 pins: With the throttle at idle, loosen the fixing screws for the TVS. Attach the Ohmmeter to pins 17 & 12(47). The numbers are molded into the plastic, but these are the 2nd and 3rd pins up from the bottom. Adjust the position of the TVS so that the contact just goes open each time you let the throttle back down to idle. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
