I'm lucky to be here - thank goodness for split pins :-) The rear drum was loose. This has lead to the wheel bearing failing, and about 0.5mm wear on the splines in the drum carrier thingy. The PO said the handbrake cable snapped during its last MOT, and was replaced. There is indeed a new cable, and shoes. Looks like the mechanic didn't torque the nut properly. This is why I prefer to do all my own work :-) Anyway, I have spares on the parts car. The drum and axle are so tight I'm going to have to borrow a puller, so at least I have servicable spares. I find it wierd that this was not noticable when driving the car (apart from the "bearing" noise). Cheers, Matt. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web! Visit http://www.vwtype3.org/list/ </x-charset>
