I'm not sure what all you'll have to do, but I'm pretty sure you don't want to try to blow it out; that would be likely to just blow it farther in. I'd start by studying the Bentley manual and learn how to remove the sunroof. I would NOT try to open it any more than necessary to remove it completely, or you will probably drive the sand farther in there. Once you have everything out you can remove the drive gear and cables and clean them all off. You may have to take these parts to some place that has a parts washer to get them clean, but you really want to get all the sand off. Use the vacuum to get out everything it will pull out, and wipe out everything else. Make sure the drain hoses are clear: An old speedometer cable makes an excellent roto-rooter for this. Put it all back together with lots of grease on all the moving parts and don't overtighten the sheet metal screws. They are easy to strip out.
