Robert, PPG is good paint ( I use Deltron myself), you might have to tell
him to get as close to the color as he/she can get for the 2 stage. The 2
stage (base coat/clear coat)is the best way to go. You're getting just the
color in the base, then you get all the gloss out of the clear. If (god
forbid) you have an accident then any good body shop can match the color. You
might want to concider the inside of the glove box door if it is the color
you want,as that piece would allow them to use the Merlin tool to get a very
good match.

Base coat/clear coat is the best way to do this, as you can sand the clear
coat smooth and then rub out the clear for the shine to return. It'll look
like glass then as that's how the pros do it.

Around here where I live, most single stage PPG paints aren't available.
They call them factory pack paints, in other words they don't have to mix it.
Maybe he's trying to sell you a different kind of single stage paint (they do
have some choices). The only problem I have with your PPG dealer is he's not
thinking about you. I willing to spend a little more now, so I don't have to
later like in 6 months to a year. If you're spending the kind of dollars I
think you are for paint, you should be able to get what you want. Is he
saying you can't get it in Deltron base coat color? My Notch was painted in
Deltron, it's an old GM color from the late 60s, that was only available in
Lacquer or Deltron from them (base coat/clear coat systems).

a factor.
For that price you must only be buying 2 quarts more than the single stage,
and those 2 quarts are probably the clear. I've found that PPG's Stratoclear
works best for most of my jobs. I keep telling that to people, it only this
much more now for a better job then it is to spend it later to get it right
(it takes a long time to mask off a car).

I've been painting/restoring old cars for the last 5 years using Deltron
base coat/clear coat painting systems, and I like the way it works out for
me. My last 2 type3s were painted using that system, and I've got 1 more
coming up this summer for my sons project type3( hey they have to graduate
from beetles some day) : ) I hope this helps and answers some of you
questions.
