<< I am curious to learn if her statement was correct...that Squarebacks are very rare in Germany (at least in Hanover). That assertion is hard to believe, but she swore she wasn't teasing me. >> My German friend (who, incidentally, was touring America for three months on a BMW motorcycle) gave me a partial answer to why there aren't many T3s in her homeland: the cost of gasoline. You and I may be proud of our 25-30mpg and not complain when we fill up with $1.l5 a gallon fuel, but that level of performance in Germany (she said) was unacceptable with the price of gasoline being over $3.00 a gallon. (It's an old story, the same everywhere...people will pay $30,000 for a new car so they can SAVE MONEY on gasoline!) Anyway, her observation must be correct...she roamed around my acreage and took pictures of the hulks in my VW graveyard...and even of my rusty Fiat 600. Now she can show pics of German cars to her German friends back home! Curiouser and curiouser.
