A couple of points I must rise regarding 12V flywheels etc. Firstly a 12V flywheel will not always fit your crank if it is an early crank designed for a non 'O' ring flywheel like most 1500's. To use the 12V flywheel you either have to get the crank ground which involves taking out the crank- I have done this- very time consuming!, or find a non 'O' rind flywheel and put the 12V ring gear on it. Further you must clearance the bell housing if you have an early gearbox. More problems than it is worth. My recommendation is if you cannot find a 12V starter with 6V gearing - yes they are rare but they are out there if you look, I would recommend leaving the flywheel alone, guaranteeing that you don't have to muck around with the end play too and get a rebuilt/new 6V starter and put a 12V solenoid on it. Be carefull people, I have seen a lot of cock ups when it comes to mismatching flywheels. A couple of my motors have come with the wrong shims between the crank and flywheel and cut a groove around the crank- not very smart stuff so make sure you think you know what you are doing.
