Yes VW did make the type 3 into a panel van. I own one which at the time
of dismantling had about 70,000 miles on it and it is undergoing a
massive rebuild which has involved almost every major Type 3 dude in the
world. All panels are NOS and cadmium plated, synthetic BRM wheels (only
set in Australia), NOS EMPI goodies, fuel injected 2276cc engine, you
name it it has it or will have it. All parts are NOS with few
exceptions. These are rare vehicles. Also a friend of mine also in
Adelaide, Andrew (on this list) has an all original panel van with only
30,000 miles on the clock and is identical to mine when mine was all
together. Yes that German Type 3 book is good. I wish someone could
translate the entire book. As far as I know there are about 10 panel
vans in Australia. Mine has the body number of 33 and Andrews is about
70. I have seen a wrecked one with an approximate number of 400 so I
guess we got at least that many. Any hard facts floating about regarding
these rares of rare Volkswagens? Still I have people tell me that
Volkswagen never made them and still I have to show my full colour
brochures from Denmark to prove them wrong. There has only ever been
pictures of mine in Hot VW's and another one from Holland. Surely there
must be a couple of good ones somewhere?
Aaron.
