That's correct. I believe I've seen some type 1 thermostats which have a removable boss which unscrews from a stud making them convertible to a type 4 style. I'm not sure if the actuation temp was the same, however. BTW, I took a look at some type 1 thermostats I have here and they are marked 65-70 degrees, which makes methanol (BP = 65C) appear to be a good choice for their working fluid, but the right choice might actually be ethanol (BP = 75C), since the working boiling point will be depressed because of the vacuum inside the bellows. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
