Re: [T3] Current situation...assistance please.
<x-flowed>RobinG=> all the rubber pieces underneath seem to be dry rotted though...
=> would urethane be good for replacements or just stick w/ rubber pieces?
I don't know where you'd get urethane replacements, but the OEM rubber
parts will be better anyway. The list will help.
=> valve job as in replacing or just regapping?
Drain the old oil and fuel, reset valve lash, squirt some oil in the
cylinders, check compression. If that looks good, change the fuel
filter, add new oil and fuel, put in a new battery. If the car drove
into the barn on its own power, that'll probably be enough to get it
going again. If, however, PO has messed with it and left it in pieces,
you'll probably want to put the motor on the bench and check it over
really carefully.
Rules of thumb: It's not a Beetle. Don't mess with it till you know it's
broken, and get your manual first in any case. Stock, OEM parts always
work better with the stock configuration and are cheaper in the long run.
