It probably wouldn't be the distributor itself -- Jim was talking about 
the diz drive, the part below the distributor. Thinking along that line, 
before you pull it you might check whether the distributor just slipped 
up out of the drive, which seems a lot more likely than a broken drive 
gear. (As someone else said, pull the cap off, grab the rotor and see if 
it'll turn loose.)
