Re: Governor o-ring (was:Re: [T3] Passed test - good and bad news)
<x-flowed windows-1255>I put the governor in, and took the car for a spin. I was happily
reacquainted with 2nd and 3rd gears. It may have been my imagination but it
seemed to behave differently. It downshifted on its own on hills, which I
don't remember it doing much. Is it supposed to do that? Could I have
unwittingly fixed something?
For the first time since I have had the car, there is no sign of any
external leak on the tranny. There were always red drops of ATF hanging off
the pan bolts. I was unable to see any leakage while it was running.
I checked the ATF again and it was down. I am willing to believe for now
that I didn't measure it properly before - I may not have waited long enough
for it to go down after filling it up, this was after all the first time I
have ever filled an empty tranny. It took another quart and now the level
shows between the lines. I will keep an eye on this - I hope there isn't an
internal leak.
In the mean time it looks like ANOTHER lug bolt is stripping. I didn't force
it and it is torqued OK for now, but I will be driving cautiously until I
get it fixed. This bolt also looks like the thread is flattening out - could
two bolts have stripped?
Thanks to all, especially Russ and Jim, for the help in sorting my tranny.
Daniel
