You're right about the confusion, but at least I can claim that we KNEW we were
confused. Even the VW microfilm seems to be confused on this issue, unless we
find a different page that contains the bracket that Daniel has, which was
certainly the one used on FI engines.

This is certainly possible. Does anyone in the world have a OE carbed type 3
engine with the Tee shaped bracket?

Per, it looks to me like the top surface of your bracket used to be horizontal.
That's just a guess, based on what the other brackets look like.

Okay, so now we are up to 4 completely different brackets:

Jason's photo:
Early long strap with 2 large holes for 2 twin SP wire holders

Russ's P/L scan & Per's photos:
Early short Z-strap with 2 holes for one large and one small SP wire holder

Maybe I'm just making this one up?
Early short Z-strap with single hole for one large SP twin wire holder

The one Daniel photographed:
Late Tee-bar (FI only?) with 2 large holes and one small hole.

Did you notice how all of these look like they could have started out being
made from the same 2 dies?

It's probably the same. The clip that's cut out of the left top cyl tin was
just introduced in '70. Before that, the tin was smooth and there was a
separate (long silver) clip used. (It looks like you have a short version of
that silver strap clamped under your bracket.) On FI engines that is used to
guide part of the FI wiring harness. I had no idea that this was used in carbed
engines to route a fuel line. Pretty clever of VW.

Thanks for showing us these photos.
