Are there different styles or are you refering to the small square piece of tin on the Type 1 engines? I seem to remember that one snapping in too. The Type 1's small square piece snaps in as well. Since T1 and T3 both snap onto the studs, as long as the tabs are straight and line up, no wire should be needed, though trimming may be required with oversize pistons. I know I had to snip a bit off 'em on my 1776cc T1. OTOH, if you've got an engine with 8mm head studs, tins from a 10mm stud engine might not hold as well as they could. Same goes for aftermarket cooltins. And some people like to wire them even if they do snap in alright, just to be *sure* they stay put. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
