Isn't the accelerator cable tube in the way?  or should it just be 
shoved to the side?

I have a approximately a 2" diameter  hole that both tubes come out of, 
so, imagining
this washer trick it seems like I would have to push the accelerator 
tube to the side,
and then the washer would only get purchase on part of the opening.
I suppose we could drill a side hole in the washer for the accelerator 
tube.
