So you had a bakelite spacer plus 2 metal gaskets on each side? That would be a 
bit thick, I think

I don't understand this part. There really isn't any such thing as "past 
closed" with the FI IAD. It stops where it runs into the wall and shuts off. It 
should not be stopped by the cable. This makes me wonder if your IAD is 
extremely worn, but I've never seen one that was that bad.

Always a good move.

Sounds good, and it will probably improve after the engine goes thru some heat 
cycles which allow the big IAD hoses to soften and conform to the tubes better.

Leakage may fix itself in a few days. Let the gas absorb into the O-rings and 
swell them a bit.

Is your charging system regulating voltage above 13.5V (warm engine, med rpm?)
