It's probably cracked and you may have quite a bit of water in the gas tank. If so, you'll need to drain that out and fix the overflow hose. Check the fuel pressure. Just buy a 30 psi gauge and try it first, before you bother with the filters, because it will tell you whether you need to bother with anything else or not. You can buy a cheap gauge at a good hardware store. Use it with a length of 5/16" gas hose. Use this same hose to pump some of the gas/water out into a glass jar. That way you can see if it separates into 2 different liquids, which would be the telltale sign of water in the gas. Once you get the engine going, check the charging system regulating voltage. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
