<x-flowed>that's what I have used on one engine, that I just assembled, now it's dripping oil along the case halfs at the bottom. I haven't even installed the engine yet in the car or run at all.

Just a quick question, what is the best sealant to use when assembleing a vw engine?
Here is what I have used on hundreds of cases over 40 years. http://www.permatex.com/products/prodidx.asp?automotive=yes&f_call=get_item&item_no=80017 This is what VW recommended when I was at engine school. If it is good enough for airplane engines, it is good enough for VW engines. I have never use silicone on the case halves or the cam plug. It is too hard to get back apart.
