scrifical screw driver to drive into the slot, so you can spread it out. Once
this happens, the ball joint stud should literally fall out. I do it
differently, as I live in the rust belt. I normally remove the big 30mm nut on the
other end of the ball joint, as this is less likely to snap than the little 10mm
bolt.
I have removed the bolt. however it was a 17mm head bolt. so I hope we're talking about the same thing.
The ball joint was free enough to rise up out of the steering knuckle, I just couldn't get it far enough to clear it.
Is the bottom of the ball joint of a slightly large diameter? I didn't need to pry in the slot with a screwdriver, but perhaps I do?
