I did it when I got my '71. My sister just used dino oil. When I got the
car off her, it had been sitting since '85. I changed the oil with dino,
and ran it for about 1 week. I then change the oil again and cleaned the
screen, and put the Mobil 1 in it.

We had a customer back in the 60's that was an Amzoil dealer. He ran
amzoil in his VW's without a filter.
He actually drove a '68 T-3 Squareback.
