Any air taken from the engine compartment compromises fuel-system 
cooling and performance. It's not a huge deal, but it does matter in 
marginal situations. I'd recommend that you do whatever is necessary to 
eliminate that. My approach would be to make the other stuff clear the 
stock air cleaner, which works better than anything anyone's devised.
