I use 10w-30 Mobil1 in my '71. No full flow filter, just the strainer. I
change oil every 3000 miles same as before. I use 10w-30 Mobil1 in my
commercial 18hp lawn mower, with full flow filter, and change oil and
filter every 50 hours of use, or in the fall which ever comes first. I
use this with a 4ft wide snow blower in the winter. This engine must
start, even when it is -20F, and run when it is as hot as 100F. I have
never had to add oil between changes.

10w-30 or straight weights were/are what is recommended by VW. Not
10w-40.

Think about this one. The screen strainer is the first thing before the
pump. It stops anything tfrom getting to the pump. Your full flow filter
is after the pump. Yes, you should still clean the screen evry time you
change oil. The last domestic engine I rebuilt died because the suction
screen was plugged on the oil pump.
