Re: [T3] Changing Auto to manual
<x-flowed>>Are there arny hassles with changing an automatic SB to a 4 speed? I would
imagine the actual trans swap is easy, what about up at the shifter?

hi Jim
I had a manual pan that was shot. I found an excellent pan from an
automatic so I modified the automatic so that I could use the
standard. It was not too difficult. I have posted some information on
our website, below (SUDAMA). Essentially, I cut the mounting plate
from a manual transmission car and welded it in place in the auto
pan. The auto shift assembly is larger and sits in a different spot.
To position the stick shift I used the front firewall as a reference.
Once that was in place, there is a tube that runs the length of the
tunnel for the clutch cable. I was able to weld the front end onto
the cross member that was in tunnel. I accessed this through the hole
in the front of the pan where the shift tube exits, when you need to
replace it. I also had to drill a hole at the rear of the pan where
the clutch cable exits. Finally, you'll have to cut open a section at
the rear of the pan that provides a access to the
shift-tube/transmission assembly. I made a tracing of the orinigal
and was able to use a sabre saw to cut the outline. In the end the
job was not difficult and we're pretty pleased with the results. Hope
this helps.
