Re: [T3] Engine work (was: Engine number)

<x-flowed>Toby,
Thank you for the tip on the breather box. Your engine appears to be the same one shown on the DDB website. In fact it was this engine that my question was based on. Did they do the powder coating for you, or do you work there? Not that it matters, I am just curious. I think that they told me that it would be 125 to have all of my tin powder coated. I am concerned about fixing the powder coating if my very exposed engine gets a chip. I know how to touch up paint. And, at this point I am not sure how long it would take. I am now elbow deep in the rebuild with wam dunebuggy weather approaching. I wanted to get on this project earlier, but Maple Syrup season was very busy this year.

Does the breather box sit on top of the original breather stand?

What type of ignition is that?

Your fuel pump looks different from mine what is it?

Is the aluminum fan casing painted?

I won't ask how you like the alternator, from some past posts, it looks like a heated topic.

As for my thoughts of adding a remote oil cooler, I have heard a lot of concern raised by this group regarding the fact that my type 3 engine is in a dune buggy without the proper cool air ducting into the fan. All of my shrouding is in place, except for the can cover (which I would like to buy from someone). I also do not have any kind of boot to bring cool air in from elsewhere. It was suggested that I find some way to rig up some type of ducting to get air from in front of the engine back to the fan. I am just not sure what I can do there that will not look dumb in the back of my dunebuggy.

Thanks,
Brad Mularcik

The non-stock breather I use is from CB Performance:
http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=239
If that URL doesn't work just do a search on their web site for "breather". You want the "Squareback Breather Box". Works well. And you only replace the breather box and NOT the breather stand. The fan housing will not be affected by a breather box change.

If using spray paint then prep is most important. Clean the parts well and primer them. I powder coated my tin and parts so I know it'll outlast any paint job. I powder coated my fuel pump as well:

No over-heating issues but my engine isn't exactly stock...

Why do you want another oil cooler? Exactly what is the problem you are having that requires it?

I am planning to clean all of the shrouding (hopefully borrow the use of a sand blaster). I want to then repaint it. Any suggestions on the type of paint / primer?

Any way to dress up the appearance of the fuel pump?
...
I am considering an extra remote oil cooler. Any suggestions on where to plumb this? In series with the stock cooler seems dificult to do. I was thinking in series with my remote full flow filter.
