I forgot that the cavity behind the wing is outside. Bad idea.
On closer inspection, and comparison with my "before" photo, I
worked out that the guy who did my welding put the mounting holes
in the new channel too close to the side. I'll just drill new holes.

Hmm. The wiring to the reg looks unaltered. The previous one
had the same connectors, and the replacement which just failed came
off a 60,000 mile '72, so may well have been original. As you will
see from the photo, the new one has a post and nut for D+, so no
alterations were necessary. The worst problem is that B+ is now 2
side by side spades, which brings one very close to the side of the
car.
