I think the steering lock was one of those things that got selected, or not, by the importer. So each market, and each year, tended to be different. I think it was always an option, but by the time the car got to the showroom, the choice had already been made. In the US I know that '68s did not get it, but I believe that '69s, and later, did. In our case, it was just the whim of VWoA. On 16 Jul 2004 at 9:22, Daniel Baum wrote: > One more question: Inside the unit there is a bearing and soldered to the > bearing there is a ground wire. Does anyone know what this grounds? It keeps the steering shaft at ground That's where the horn circuit eventually gets its ground when you push the horn button. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Shameless link for search engines: http://listarchive.type3.org ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
