Re: [T3] FI for Carbs

Like already mentioned, if over 2 years old, it should be replaced anyway.
Also, you don't need to buy the real expensive stuff, as the fuel system is of a
low pressure. Most regular hose is rated to 250 psi, more than enough.

>More HP?

As a carb guy, I doubt it. The stock FI is the best performing set up (did I
really say that?), as you just hit the key and go, no waiting for warm up.
Most Weber carbs are jetted to run rich, and that reduces engine life, right
Keith? Yes there is a new learning curve for carbs or FI, but with the FI, all you
really need is a VOM meter (should have one any way), not a carb synch tool
(mandatory for carbs).

 Looks better,

Maybe, but it doesn't run any better. Going with the Webers, you loose the
fresh air intake (carbs are always surrounded by engine heat) that is built into
the car. Solex 32's are a better choice, as they came stock on 67 and earlier
cars and are designed to take advantage of the fresh air. Better choice over
the Webbers (I have both on cars here).

>FI hose is expensive!

See my comment above. Todays rubber hoses should be replaced onm a fairly
consistant basis due to todays fuels eating them from the inside.

This sometimes happens on 34 year old cars that were stored incorrectly. Jim
A. or Russ can tell you how to revive them for next to nothing. Both are FI
guru's and have been around the system for a very long time (sorry guys if that
made you sound really old : ) ).

>For another $200.00 we bought a new dual carb kit. Shall I go on? :-)

It might seem like a bargin right now, but later on downn the road when the
carb starts popping, and the engine starts running off song, there won't be
much help here due to most here staying with stock systems (FI or Solex's). Very
few of us here have 34 ICTs, and we have to search other places for info. Try
www.shop talk forums.com for help with them.

>Anyone else have reasons why we should or should not do the swap? Just
curious,

I'd leave the FI, as you'll find more help here getting it to work. Once its
working and everything checks out to be within spec, its very reliable. I hope
you got the installation instructions for the carbs for that price, as they
are very tricky to get set correctly (Solex's are easier), I know, as I've got
the instructions, and it was still tricky for me. Also keep the stock FI
distributor, much better than the 009.
Most of my cars were already swapped, so I didn't get a choice on keeping it
or not. The last car I got didn't even have an engine, so I had to go to carbs
(Solex 32s). If I had the option, I wouldof left the FI, especially since
this list can walk you thru the entire system, part by part if needed. Carbs, we
can't hardly agree on much, right Steven, Keith, Daniel, and the rest of us?
Just some observations from being on this list for over 4 years. By the way,
Welcome to the list, and keep the questions flowing.
