Which is the same thing that's done for a mid-engine setup, right.  
But I'd heard somewhere that it's not such a great idea to do that with 
the 'vair engine .. something about running the gears in the transaxle
backwards causing premature wear, not sure.  It's been a long, *long*
time since I've looked at the Corvair<->VW transplant stuff and my 
memory of most of it is ... hazy at best. :-)
