The gist of it is that the 'vair engine rotates > "backwards" relative to the VW engine (and, in fact, most engines). So in addition to the > engine sealing issues for T3 conversion/installation, there's also that to consider. The VW trans was/is symmetrical. The early T-2, due to their single reduction gear set on the outer axle did this to get everything going in the right direction. Wanta see something funny??? Rebuild an early T-2 transaxle, and start to go for a road test, and find that you have 4 in reverse, and 1 forward. I have never done it, but saw one done that way. We didn't quit laughing for about an hour. -- Russ Wolfe '71 FB AT '66 FB MT '64 T34 (not running) '65 T1 (not running) russw@classicvw.org http://www.classicvw.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
