Well, you could have a flex plate that is cracked. Or, you could have an
engine with the wrong gland nut holdint the drive plate. There was a
difference betweent the one for the T-3 and the T-1. The T-3 hex protion
is thinner.

It the axle nut torqued to 256 ft lbs?? This is about as tight as you
can get it and a little bit more. A loose drum can makes some weird
noises. Is there any signs of loose rust around the axle nut?? This is a
sign of a loose axle nut.

Have you tried reversing the axles. (Making them run in the opposite
direction they have been running. If it is a CV, this will usually make
the noise go away temporarily.

Check the axle nuts.

If there is no load on the tranny, it will probably not make noise.
