   My buddy had done a complete brake job on his bug and let me take it 
for a spin around the block.  I'm telling you those brakes s*cked 
compared to my type 3.  Granted this was a '57 bug, but you had to push 
with both feet, and you still were rolling through stop signs!  I've 
found the squareback can pull to a stop better than our 4-disk Volvo wagon.
   Regarding sticky tires, stock 165 cheapo's have mid-300 tread wear 
(vs 5-600 for long life).  We have a set of "Century" that are 365.  At 
under 7k miles a year, these tires will crack with age before they wear out.
