hi russ your missing the point ! you limit damage cause by low quality parts not working well toghether if you find out they are not working toghether well with an engine without load on it. i firmly beleive that manufactures are never likely to recommend the absolute best scenario serviceing scheduals if things last to long you put yourself out of business. why do you never see anything these days that involves a grease nipple ! because if you carry out the correct maintenance on an item fitted with one you will get a grand lifespan from it . service frequencies used to be increased in harsh conditions ? and today. i think one thing your totally missing here is the fact that all modern cars have a very effevtive filtration system typ3 engines most certainly do not ! you cannot advocate modern servicing retrospectively to our old world tecnologies if you would like to subscribe to "build it fit it drive it" i am a little suprised to say the least what we are talking about is a little insurance for longivity and the cost 10litres of oil and some gaskets. lets here how you would fit and subsequently service a rebuilt or factory new engine.
