I've seen several different versions of thermostats used interchangably in our 
engines. As long as yours both have the same fittings, top and bottom, they 
should both work as long as they are still working.

I like to bolt them into one of their support brackets, so they can't over 
extend themselves, and then stick them in a pan of water on the stove. When the 
water gets above 70C the thermostat should expand and fill the bracket.

Hard to find. If you can find a shop that has torn down engines they may have 
them lying around. More likely they were just bewildered by how different they 
were from beetle parts and they threw them out.
