Hello- > so i can put a porsche engine into my type 3 huh? Sure. > Has anyone done this? Yes. > What > kind of work am I looking at? What kind of engine? Where would I find it? Well, it depends... what kind of engine do you want? Porsche made a lot of things :-). There are three types of aircooled engines you could use that won't break the bank: - Porsche 356/912 - not very powerful, very small, very lightweight, 1.1L-1.6L stock. Semi-expensive. Not the wisest of choices. - Porsche 912E/914 - these are variations on the VW Type 4 engine. This is 1.7L-2.0L stock, and can be made much larger. They are more expensive than a VW Type 1/3, but cheaper than everything else, and an excellent idea. It comes factory in "pancake" form, so it fits the T3 well, too. - Porsche 911/930/964/993 - these are all variations on the 6-cylinder, 2-cam SOHC boxer we all know. This is semi-expensive, heavier, but quite powerful. It cannot fit unless you don't want your trunk anymore - no one's ever done a "pancake" conversion to it, and it'd be too wide as a pancake anyway. This isn't a bad choice, but a lot of work and money. There are also a myriad of Porsche aircooled racing engines, but they will break the bank (i.e. $50,000 for the engine is a good deal). And, there's a myriad of watercooled engines (924, 944/968, 928, 986, 996, etc.), but these need a lot of work to make them fit. So... more specifically... what kind of Porsche engine do you want? :-) Take care, Shad Laws LN Engineering - Aircooled Precision Performance http://www.lnengineering.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
