[T3] Finally back!

Whew, our mail server is finally back up to speed on campus... been down for
about a week and a half...

Anyway, just before it went down, I did some work on my engine problems. I
tried to send these results in, but couldn't because the server was down.
So, here's a copy of that message, in full:

Well, I went down to the lot yesterday to do a few things to see if I could
either fix my lunging problem or at least narrow down the possibilities.

I replaced the fuel filter in the engine compartment. the gas that came out
of the pump side of the filter was an opaque dark red, and had some chunks
in it. Gas from the carb side just looked like gas. Could my tank be rusting
internally?

I took the cap off my distributor and tried twisting the rotor clockwise. Is
that the right direction? It was stiff, but it turned a little bit. It
hesitated a second before snapping back, though. Could there possibly be
something gumming up its mechanism? Should I take it apart and clean it?

I found the idle screw on the carb. It was screwed in pretty far, so I
loosened it just a little, until the pitch changed slightly. I don't know
what rpm's it's at exactly, but my car doesn't lurch when I put it in a
drive gear anymore, which I'm guessing is a good thing.

After doing these things I drove her around a bit. The problem was still
there, but it wasn't as rough. The low-power phases were shorter, and the
transition between low power and normal power seemed to be cleaner, somehow.
Less of a strain, at least, if that makes any sense.

Well, that's the situation to date. Maybe my class schedule will allow me to
do some more this afternoon.
