The seal was too small, and the dust boot was also smaller. Much of the World (not USA) got disc-braked Type 1s for all the 1500 and 1600 engined cars. The Type 3 got a bigger piston to cope with the greater vehicle mass, though the caliper casting is the same. The seals and dust boots for the early and late Type 3 calipers are the same; only the piston retaining plate is different in the repair kit. Dave.
