I strongly disagree, having tried to put a Type 1 seal on an (early) Type 3
piston. The seal was too small, and the dust boot was also smaller. Much of
the World (not USA) got disc-braked Type 1s for all the 1500 and 1600 engined
cars. The Type 3 got a bigger piston to cope with the greater vehicle mass,
though the caliper casting is the same. The seals and dust boots for the early
and late Type 3 calipers are the same; only the piston retaining plate is
different in the repair kit.
