Re: [T3] Newbie with alot of questions

Wow Bob! Thanks for all the great info.

This is a switch for the electric transmission kick down control, it should
have a wire the goes to the coil (+ side) with an inline fuse in it and one
wire that goes to the trans with a switch in between.

I only noticed one wire coming off of the vacuum modulator, I'll look today
for the 2nd connector and try to get this hooked up. The AT works better
than I thought it would, but there is a jump between 1st and 2nd, so perhaps
this will help.

Yes, this is correct, the oil bath is the best you can have. VW spent alot
of
time and $$$ to get it right.

Is anyone aware of a good source for the oil bath filter, or is it a
junkyard kind of thing? Will the original work with the Weber carbs? Also,
my linkage sits rather high (the PO had to cut out some of the insulation on
the back of the engine lid to make it fit), does anyone have any
recommendation as to making it work with the original filter?

I can understand that, as I like to use ALL 66 HP that I have to their
fullest ( I only have this many and I like to use them all), and do like to
run a
little more advance if the car will stand it.

What year is this again? As different years require different timing.

This is a 1970. Should I time the engine in one way for emissions and
another for "actual" use?

I think you still might have some air in your lines. Did you or the PO
replace the rubber brake hoses? If not you might want to do this, as they do
like to
collapse from the inside, especially the fronts with age.

I'll give that a try. I did notice that one of the rear hoses does not sit
correctly on the bracket where the metal and ruber meet. Another user
suggested that I check the adjusting stars, so I'll do that as well. On a
related note, is there a good jack point to use to raise the rear wheels and
leave the front ones on the ground? I have a hydraulic jack and jackstands.

You need to visit this site; http://www.icbm.org/erkson/index.html and type
in "front" into the search function (sorry Toby, but yours is the only one I
know thats still up and running : ) )

This seems like a great site. The procedure seems way out of my league, I
don't think I have the skills or the equipment (like a torch) to do it at
the moment.

Thanks again for all the tips. I'm off to the parts shop to get a few
things, I should have time to put this advice to use after that. In
rereading my original post, I realized that my descriptions are rather,
ummm..., pathetic, so I'm taking the digital camera out with me this time.

Thank you very much,

Adam
