I agree that the ONLY real way to rebuild one of these engines and expect it to
last a good long life is to get case savers (steel inserts) installed. RIMCO
does this so well, so cheaply, and so quickly, that there is absolutely NO
point in not doing it. I've also seen engines rebuilt by novices who then
discovered that the studs were pulling out AFTER they thought they were
finished rebuilding; that's a big disappointment.

BTW, if you go the HP route and install the smaller case savers for 8mm studs,
this is a good thing, but you MUST use the correct specs for these studs. If
you use the normal torque for 10mm studs you will pull the 8mm case savers out
of the case. Major bummer.

I disagree. While fairly uncommon, it occasionally happens that a nut just
comes loose. People who are so lucky should just accept their good fortune with
gratitude and STILL install case savers at the next rebuild.

The repair studs (I assume that's what you meant) aren't nearly as big in
diameter as the case savers. You can still install case savers after the repair
studs have pulled out.
