I have never had problems with Heli Coils that I installed myself. If
they are installed properly, they will last as long as the head.

You can install a Heli Coil without pulling the engine, IF you have the proper tool.  There is a special tap, that reams the hole out to the proper size, AND taps it all at the same time.
You apply grease to the reamer/tap to catch the shavings. There is a
special tool to install the Heli Coil that will reach through the shroud
on even a T-3 engine, and install the insert.
I have a set of these tools, if someone is interested.
