In 25 years of off and on visiting of Japan I've seen less than a handful of type 3s there. There aren't even many bugs. As Jason (I think it was) recently mentioned, the Japanese aren't much into old cars, and their auto tax/inspection laws make keeping an old car very difficult/expensive. In fact, I think I've seen more Lotus Super 7s there than type 3s. On one stay there, in Tskuba (Science City) our hotel was next door to a British Leyland dealership. One morning we came out to bike down to the lab and discovered that they had a whole display of new 50th anniversary Mini's there. These were REAL Mini's, not the present day BMW Mini's, but I have to admit that BMW has done a nice job with the new Mini. I suppose the internal structure has all been completely redone, but I think they've captured the original "look and feel" quite nicely. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
