Well...i guess it is rusted...but what exactly does rust mean? If you can't see it, as long as you know it is there, and the structure of the car is ok...play on. Enjoy the ride while it lasts...just beware of where and how you put money into it...i.e. any parts you purchase for it-can they be re-used on another T3? Just make sure the frame is ok it is relatively safe & enjoy it! -----Original Message----- From: JBRIGS [mailto:jbrig@enter.net] Sent: Thursday, July 17, 2003 6:57 PM To: type3@vwtype3.org Subject: [T3] I'm afraid it's a lost cause! My '73 fastback has a significant amount of rust. It seems like I find another hole every day! The wheel wells in the front have large holes rotted through. I just realized today that the previous owner attached a piece of aluminum to the inside of the driver's side front wheel well where the floor pan begins. This area is rotted and I can hear metal moving when I tap my foot on the floor in that corner. The rear wheel wells also have their share of rust. The outer body looks good, but the more that I explore, I find that looks are deceiving! The spare tire well and surrounding panel are rusted through as well. I don't know that this car is worth restoring. I have concerns about it's structural integrity. Does anyone have any opinions on this matter?
