I think the insulator gaskets were a FI part only. Dual carb engines came with 
just a paper gasket between the head and the manifold, and an insulator between 
the manifold and the throttle body.

I agree that the metal gaskets were a type 1 part only. OTOH, I've never 
understood why VW did it differently for the 2 types.
