Yesterday for a couple of seconds so much smoke came out that I actually thought the engine had caught fire somehow. It stopped smoking when I released the throttle. It doesn't hesitate, miss, backfire, bang or do anything else untoward when it's in neutral. It sounds fine. Last time I drove it it missed on a hill. It's hard to say whether it smokes only when the throttle is opening or whether it is all the time that is it running at high rpm. > Black smoke is often just carbon dislodged from the engine/exhaust when you get > more flow thru there, so it's possible that the problem is actually too rich a > mixture at idle. Yes the chokes work, as far as I can see. Daniel ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
