Subject: [T3] Slightly off topic--->Poll question to bring it back on topic- what's the earliest anyone got into VW's, Type 3's specifically? The first VW I ever owned was a 67 KG I bought in 1977 when I was 16. My first memory of VWs is of the Bugs my Dad had starting in the mid 60s when I was but a wee tyke. I donât know exactly how many I've owned but in the category of 'Gee I wish I would of kept that' are a 55 VW Beetle, and my Dads 65 Variant S Squareback. The one we have kept for perhaps too many years (20) is a 71 KG Vert, which to say it is kind of rusted would be an understatement. When I had it at Cannon AFB, NM in 83-84, one of the senior NCOs in our shop used to tell me that the only thing holding it together was the Karmann badge. And it was about to fall off. When I left to go to the UK in late 84 I parked it in front of my parent's house in Kansas City. To make a long story shorter, it took me 10 years to come back and get it. And as they say, Rust never sleeps. I guess it's kind of like an old dog that can't see or hear, but you just can't bear the thought of getting rid of it. Presently my Dad and I have been restoring his 70 Bug. When that is done, soon I hope, I will get back on my 70 Fastback. Thanks for allowing me the long and somewhat OT soliloquy, I feel better know. Doug Hampleman Lakeland, FL 79 Beetle Vert, the Princess 70 Fasty, Donât give up on me yet 71 Ghia Vert, Rusty 70 Ghia coupe, parts car 87 Acura Legend, the daily driver 87 Acura Legend, parts car, (hey old habits die hard, new car dealers have never made any money off me) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
