Ideal situation is to run a line from the pump to the filter to the 
cooler to the case.  And as an aside, the HP-1 is not the same filter is 
was 5 years ago!!!  They have burst problems from faulty cardboard 
bypass mechanisms!!!  Get a filter with a plastic check valve.  I now 
use NAPA filters and never have issue with burst (lost 3 hp-1s before i 
made the switch).
