This picture http://www.vwdiecast.anomalous.net/images/Pan-off/92%20coming%20clean.JPG shows how I cleaned up most of the dirt, wax, rust and what not. It is a 2 inch cup brush - (wire brush) for a drill. Like an electric brush. They make them for a 4 inch grinder as well, but those are $$$. Where the undercoating was thicker, this tended to smear it around, first. If you have a lot, I would try and take it of like you would wax? Heat, hot water, some chemical cutter? Otherwise where it was not to thick, the wire wheel did take it off! This took a solid half day just to clean the bottom of the pan. I would suggest looking into how media (or sand) blasting would handle this. Always a choice between elbow grease and your time vs. opening the wallet. Just like any other painting, the prep work is key! Be sure to use the metal prep (can someone explain why that needs to rinsed off after applying.) The killer here is waiting for the rinse to dry completely before painting. I hate getting something wet just before I am going to paint it. I used the hot - hot water for this rinse. Now that this is done, I can look forward to doing the same to the underside of the body, and spots along the top of the pan! Can I use the standard POR-15 on the body, in the engine compartment. I beleive the heat rating is above 2-225? Or do I need to get the high heat for this area. -John R. 1 2 halves, 69 Fastbacks __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
