Sumps do nothin' for temps...

"Mesa" coolers are very effective, but placement and installation is
everything. Use a REAL thermostat - do NOT use the stock oil cooler
location as the take-off point as it will bypass oil. Use a fan. And,
think hard about airflow over the cooler. Horizontally-mounted coolers
can be a big pain to get airflow, and often vertically-mounted ones
will cool more.

A VDO head temp gauge is a good compromise of cheap, easy, and good.
Put the ring of the thermocouple around a spark plug. Make sure the
plastic connector of the thermocouple is in a "cold" environment... on
the firewall works pretty well.

There are better ways, but they're costly, complex, and questionable
for what you want to accomplish IMHO.

If you do the regular full flow bit, use those take off points for the
cooler, too. Put it in line with the filter.
