This would only make sense if it were true that the alum of the head, which 
would be shaped sort of like an inverted U with the stud thru the ends of the 
U, was being put under stress (bent) by the stud as the head (the U) tried to 
expand with temp. I suppose this must be what is happening.

No wonder that design failed....
