Anyone ever try this? She's got a 68, which has the release under the dash, on the left. Having this cable not work is SUCH a major problem that it should be a reminder to ALL of us to pay attention to them and make sure that they are working well. Properly set up, they work easily and should never be in any danger of breaking or failing to open. If this is not the case with yours, open it up now, take it apart carefully, and find the problem BEFORE it turns into a big one. I had trouble with my 69 until I got frustrated and looked at it closely. It turned out that the plastic coating on the inner wire had cracked, due to previous abuse. The crack was just where it left the plastic guide tube, so the crack caught on the entrance to the guide tube. Thus it caught there when I pulled on it. The fix was to strip off the now useless last inch of inner plastic coating. Also, for those of you with the release in the glove box. MAKE SURE that the screw that anchors the release mechanism to the DASH is there. If that's left out, all the stress goes to the paper glove box itself, which quickly disintegrates. - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- Search old messages on the Web!
