Hi Mike,
While you all know, I'm not mechanically involved much w/ my car(hubby's
dept. but I look over his shoulder now and again), I too have had this
problem w/ my Fasty's horn blowing either applying the brakes or making a
turn. I know there is a wire connection that jumps across a point on the
steering column (a ground???). The problem in my particular car, is that the
steering column shifts or moves just a bit if I push too hard on the steering
wheel during hard braking or sometimes while making a turn, thus grounding
the column and causing the horn to sound. Got annoying enough that I had
hubby disconnect the horn, cuz folks thought I was being rude or rambunctious.
Is your column and/or steering wheel able to shift? A similar problem on
one of our other cars caused the high beams to go on and off.You may try
adjusting the gap between the steering column head unit thingy(ign. lock,
turn sig &wiper sw. unit) and the steering wheel.Readjusting the gap worked
on curing the high beam prob. in the other VW.
Just a possibility,
Sue 70 Fasty-AT
